The previous post talked about “if the mental health system was sane….”   Its not.

This post is about the math of an insane system. (Thanks to DBSA for supplying some of  the figures.)

The lost of productivity from mental health disorders is 63 billion (with a b) dollars a year.

The unemployment rate for those living with a mental health disorder is 3-5 times that of people without a mental health disorder.

More than 50% of the kids 14 and up with a mental health disorder drop out of school.

High school dropouts cost the economy 1.8 billion dollars a year.

People with bipolar disorder have the highest rate of substance abuse of any mental health condition.

25-50% of people with bipolar disorder attempt suicide at least once in their lives.

89.3 million people in the United States live in a federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Area.
